Spring sunshine drew in the crowds for Dundonald Show which attracted a quality entry of livestock to Dundonald Camp Track, North Ayrshire.

Supreme dairy was the 13-month-old red and white Ayrshire heifer Brieryside Raoul Sarah from Andrew Sempey, Kilmarnock.Purchased at the Lawrie family’s herd dispersal sale last June, in partnership with A Sempey and R Davidson, she is sired by Pie X Raoul and out of Brieryside Deluxe Sarah.

The same home produced the reserve dairy with the nine-month-old Holstein heifer calf Patch Anna Leigh. She is sired by Penn-England Coubra and like the champion is set for further local shows.

In the sheep lines, the inter-breed title went to the Texel champion from David McPhee of North Lodge, Dundonald. This February-born tup lamb is sired by Deveronvale Fastrac and out of a home-bred ewe.

“My champion was a good Texel lamb with a lovely face, long body, and good gigots,” said the judge John Cowan of Brickrow.

The blue and white sash went to the Suffolk supreme from the Barclay brothers – twins Cameron and Finlay and Archie – of Mid Brockloch, Maybole. Their two-crop ewe was purchased in-lamb from Andrew Currie’s Quarter flock and was on her first outing.

Champion Clydesdale was the two-year-old filly Doura Rosemary from Charlotte Young, Hall Farm, Ayr. Sired by Collessie Connoisseur, she is bred from the home-bred mare Doura Glitterball.

Dairy (Judge: W Brown, Caprickhill). Champion and reserve – A Sempey, Kilmarnock. Champion was the 13-month-old red and white heifer, Brieryside Raoul Sarah, which is sired by Pie X Raoul and out of Brieryside Deluxe Sarah. She is a shared with R Davidson and is set to attend Ayr Show. Reserve was the eight-month-old Holstein heifer calf, Patch Anna Leigh, she is sired by Penn-England Coubra and is also set to attend local shows.

Clydesdale (Judge: K Wilson, Perthshire). Champion – C Young, Hall Farm, Ayr, with Doura Rosemary. A daughter of Collessie Connoisseur, she is out of Doura Glitterball. Reserve – R and A Robertson, Kilwinning, with a mare.

Suffolk (Judge J Cowan, Brickrow). Champion – J, C and F Barclay, Mid Brocklock, Maybole, with a two-crop ewe purchased from A Currie’s Quarter flock. On her first outing, she is destined for Ayr and the Royal Highland.

Texel (Judge: J Cowan). Champion – D McPhee, North Lodge, Dundonald, with a February-born home-bred tup lamb. Sired by Deveronvale Fastrac and out of a home-bred ewe.

Bluefaced Leicester (Judge: J Cowan). Champion – J Jamieson, of Fenwick pedigrees, Kilmarnock, with a ewe hogg bought from G Thornborrow, Dawyck, Peebles. Sired by the £65,000 P1 Riddings, she is set for Ayr Show.

Continental sheep (Judge: J Cowan). Champion – J Cousar, Howcommon, Kilmarnock with a Beltex tup. A son of Tanqueray Gladiator, he is bred by Carruthers Ellie, and was a shared purchase with W Kennedy. He is also destined for Ayr and the Royal Highland shows.

Native sheep (Judge: J Cowan). Champion – J and C Hodge, One Ploughland, Auchinleck, with a bought in three-crop North Country Cheviot ewe.
