Charolais crosses led the heifer trade at 335.30p for a 337kg entry from Kirkland, and to £1800 for a 600kg animal from Elmscleugh.

A Hereford bull led the weaned cattle at £1640 for Messrs Long, Keyla Park.

Bullocks reached £1320 on two occasions, for Aberdeen Angus and a pair of Limousin from Messrs Routledge, Netherton, with Limousin and Charolais heifers both making £1300 for Messrs McCorncick, Barnbackle.

The weekly sale of calves was topped by a Simmental bull calf from Connell Farm Ltd, East Drummodie, Newton Stewart, at £730, who also sold the lead priced heifer at £650 in the form of a Charolais.

On Monday, the firm held their sale of ewes and lambs where 529 lives averaged £103.69.

Topping the sale was a Suffolk gimmer with a single lamb at foot from David Mattinson, Cockermouth, achieving £175 per life.

The largest entry to date of 158 pet lambs cashed in at £12.55, having reached £25 on six occasions, firstly for Texels from Messrs Smith, Lake View; Messrs Barrow, Pow Head; Messrs Pigg, Chesterwood and Westmorland Chapel, followed by a Dutch Spotted from Messrs Dixon, Cowburn.

On Monday, Caledonian Marts sold 489 store cattle to a top of £1680 for a Salers heifer from M Norval, Tullygarth, Clackmannan, and to £1660 for Limousins from J and J Brown, Loanrigg, Slamannan.

Among the pence per kg section it was Limousins that secured the top spots with bullocks from R Purdon, Easterton, Caldercruix, making 346.3p, and heifers from W Paterson, Craighead, Stirling, realising 315p.

Bullocks and heifers cashed in at 290.84p and 281.18p respectively.

Also forward were 557 ewes and lambs at foot, which reached £128 per life for a Beltex cross ewe with twin lambs at foot from H Aird, Harelaw, Crook of Devon.
